Connecting the Gems of the Indian Ocean Gala

Smithsonian’s NMAfA hosted a gala dinner to kick-off multiyear programming series focusing on Oman and East Africa. This project, a collaborative endeavor by SQCC and NMAfA, is funded through a $1.8 million gift from the Sultanate of Oman.

World Premiere of Hamdan - Through the Gate of Tears

Hamdan: Through the Gate of Tears, a modern ballet celebrating one man’s journey from Oman to East Africa debut on April 11 and 12 at Howard University’s Cramton Auditorium. The ballet was choreographed by Ray Mercer, and performed by Howard University dancers and guest artists.

Annual Conference 'Oman and the Indian Ocean: Interaction and Exchange'

On October 29th 2013, the conference "Oman and the Indian Ocean: Interaction and Exchange" was held at the University of Chicago. The event, co-sponsored by the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center and the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Chicago, brought scholars from the U.S. and abroad together to share their knowledge on Oman and the Indian Ocean region.

On September 18 the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center hosted seven American high school students, soon to depart for an eight-month study abroad program in Muscat, Oman, for a presentation to introduce them to Oman's rich cultural heritage.
