About the Event

On Friday April 12, 2019 SQCC hosted a group from the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) prior to their departure to the gulf. The group toured SQCC’s exhibition and learned about Omani history, Omani irrigation practices (the aflaj system), and traditional Omani handicrafts. Before the cultural presentation, FSI members sampled Omani coffee and dates while speaking with SQCC staffers. Thereafter, the group participated in an Arabic presentation about Omani culture, history, geography and traditions. The participants asked questions about daily life in Oman, Oman’s culture and tradition, tourism and the participation of women in Oman. After the presentation, the group watched a documentary on the history of Oman titled Sons of Sinbad: Monsoon Empire. To conclude their visit, the FSI members visited SQCC’s library and became acquainted with its rich collection of books in both Arabic and English.
