About the Event

On Tuesday 12 February, SQCC received students from the Arabic Department at American University in Washington, D.C. Students toured SQCC’s permanent exhibition learning about traditional Omani attire and handicrafts such as pottery, basketry, and silverwork. On the tour, students also learned about the historical importance of the aflaj irrigation system, forts, and maritime trade. After the tour, the group listened to a lecture about Omani culture, people, traditions, and the country’s environment. Finally, students asked many questions regarding Omani customs, ecotourism, and SQCC’s mission and programming in the U.S. and abroad. Students were also encouraged to speak in Arabic and to introduce themselves and the reason why they study Arabic at their university. Students then practiced asking questions about Oman in Arabic.
