The Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center Library FAQ

The library is open from Monday to Friday from 10am – 4pm.

 

Yes, you may use the library by searching the collection on the library online catalog. You can then browse, read and borrow library materials. We also accept inter-library loan (ILL) through outside institutions, free of charge.

To search for all items in the library, type your query in the search bar

Click on 'go' to get search results:

To refine your search results, you can use the filters on the left-hand column.

To search for documents using specific criteria such as: subject, title, author, publisher etc. Click on the 'advanced search' button located below the search bar, to narrow your search with the filters provided. You may also access to our collection using the OCLC WorldCat Catalog.

Worldcat also offers filters and an advanced search option to refine your research

You can save your search results by creating specific lists as well as export the citations in a variety of different formats.

Library users can borrow up to five items for one month, plus a renewal of 15 days.

- The books are in alphabetic order A to Z
- The specific Subject's line numbers are read in a straight numerical order
and then after the decimal point (e.g. : DS247.4), the numbers are read as
decimals : ......48, 89.2, 89.25, 105, 107, 1000, 2500.....
- The author's line letters are read alphabetically and numbers decimally
- The publication's date line is read in a chorological order

  1.  Log in to your account, with the username and password provided by the librarian, if you don't have an account please contact us at [email protected]
  2. Locate your item on the search bar by title, author etc.
  3. Click on 'place hold' located in the right-list.
  4. Check your desired book and confirm by clicking on 'place hold'.
  5. Please make sure that the book has been added to your holds list located in your account's summary.

Library users can renew their borrowed books once, for a period of fifteen additional days. To renew online, use the following steps:

  1. First click on the following link (https://www.sqcc.org/library)
  2. Log in to your account with the username and password provided by the librarian
  3. Check the books you would like to renew and click on 'Renew selected'.
  4. You may renew all your borrowed books by clicking on 'Renew all'.

Please make sure that the due date changes and to get a renewed confirmation

The Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center Library circulates nationally and internationally through the Inter-Library Loan Service, mostly via the ILL OCLC World Share platform. To receive your desired books, you have to submit your request at the library in which you are member, and we will process the ILL request once received. Generally, it takes 3-5 business days in the U.S. to receive your requested books, and it is free of charge.

The Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center Library encourages its users to request unavailable materials related to the Sultanate of Oman at the library through the Inter-Library Loan service. If you wish to do so please contact us at [email protected] and we will let you know once the materials are available for check out.

In addition to returning the borrowed books to the library, you may also return books by dropping them at the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center reception (front desk), or by shipping them via USPS. If you are returning a book via mail, please email the library the tracking number in advance of its arrival.

Yes, the library provides free wireless Internet access for patrons and visitors to use with their personal computers and mobile devices. Please don't hesitate to ask the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center staff to provide you with the WiFi Password.
