About the Event

On 28 April, the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center (SQCC) hosted a graduation for students in SQCC’s 2018-2019 Children’s Arabic Program. SQCC’s Children’s Arabic Program is a yearlong language program designed for young learners of Arabic between the ages of six and fifteen. Dr. Abeer Al Mohsen, director of the Children’s Arabic Program, emphasized in her opening remarks that learning Arabic at these ages are critical for the development of native-level linguistic proficiency.

SQCC’s curriculum is not only designed to instill a strong foundation for the Arabic language but also to foster a lasting appreciation for Arabic’s rich cultural heritage. The 2018-2019 graduating class included 46 students who dazzled parents, teachers, SQCC staff, and friends with a spectacular display of linguistic command and cultural understanding through many performances.

There was a song and dance about the Arabic colors, a singing of “Our House”, and presentations delivered in Arabic teaching about the Sultanate of Oman. Certificates of completion were presented to students by SQCC’s Executive Director, Kathleen Ridolfo. The event was also attended by H.E. Hunaina S. Al-Mughairy, Ambassador of Oman to the United States. Her Excellency praised SQCC’s mission and leadership, the pioneering role of SQCC’s Children’s Arabic Program, and the hard work and dedication from all the teachers. A reception followed where authentic Middle Eastern cuisine was served.

SQCC’s 2019-2020 Children’s Arabic Program will begin on 7 September, 2019. Applications for enrollment are due on 18 August, 2019. A link to the Children’s Arabic Program application can be found here.
