About the Event

On Thursday, June 22, the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center (SQCC) participated in the EuroAsia 2023 Shorts Series by hosting a screening of two Omani short films and one French short film. SQCC partnered with the Alliance Française of Washington D.C. in the screening of the films to the general public.

The films were centered around the theme of freedom with stories involving the elderly, handicapped and those with special needs. SQCC provided popcorn, candy, chips, and drinks to the viewers to accompany the films. Following the three films, Jenan Mahmood, representing SQCC, and Sarah Diligenti, representing the Alliance Française, facilitated a discussion where viewers had the opportunity to share their thoughts and ask questions about the films. His Excellency Moosa Hamdan Al Tai, Ambassador of Oman to the United States, graciously responded to questions, shedding light on current situations in Oman to the audience. To end off the evening, guests were invited to a reception composed of Middle Eastern dishes. For dessert, French Madeleines, Omani coffee, and dates laid side by side, representing the cross-cultural evening and collaboration between the SQCC and the Alliance Française in hosting this EuroAsia 2023 event.

Roughly 140 individuals attended the event. Upon checking in, visitors had the opportunity to tour the exhibit and library on the ground level, before proceeding upstairs for the film screening. Many expressed gratitude to SQCC for their hospitality and generosity in hosting. Guests enjoyed the reception, as they were able to interact and have conversations amongst themselves about the screened films.

In short, the EuroAsia Short event hosted by SQCC in collaboration with the Alliance Française was successful in drawing a sizable crowd, exhibiting three thought provoking films, promoting SQCC, and providing a cultural meal.
