About the Event
John will join us from the U.K. to discuss the ins and outs of this challenging, but not technical climb from 620 m (2,034 ft.) to 3,000 m (9,842 ft.). The track follows the spine of the mountains with frequent diversions to natural springs that sustain a string of ancient villages, spectacular rock formations, Bronze Age tombs, and thousand year old falaj irrigation systems still in use today.
A native of New Zealand, John Edwards lived in the Sultanate from 1991-1994 and 2002-2014; he currently resides in the U.K. He says, of all the places he has resided in the past 36 years, the Sultanate was his favorite. The book encourages long distance walkers to take in the beauty of the Hajar Mountains. John hopes the publication will also encourage responsible tourism and help sustain the nascent bed and breakfast industry for travelers.
