About the Event
On Tuesday 10 March, SQCC received teachers from Close UP Foundation. Teachers from across the country came to SQCC for a tour of the permanent exhibition. They learned about traditional Omani attire and handicrafts such as pottery, basketry, and silver artwork. During the tour, teachers expressed interest in the historical importance of the aflaj irrigation system, forts, and maritime trade.
After the tour, the group participated in a lecture on SQCC’s Indian Ocean in World History (IOWH) website, an educational resource exploring 94,000 years of human history through seven interactive maps and Oman’s role in the Indian Ocean throughout the ages. The website is a free classroom resource that is comprised of signature maps, lesson plans, quizzes, trivia, and additional educational resources. Teachers also learned how to create their own lesson plan from the website.
In addition to learning about IOWH, guests also learned about Oman’s culture, history, geography, and tradition. Visitors to SQCC’s booth received promotional materials for SQCC programs and bags of frankincense.
