About the Event

On the evening of 27 June, the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center hosted a private opening of its summer exhibition titled “Tolerance, Understanding, Coexistence: Oman’s Message of Islam.”

The world-renowned exhibition aims to increase intercultural dialogue through art while promoting mutual respect and understanding among nations and cultures. First launched in 2010, over 125 international cities have been host to the exhibition which also provides insights into the practice of Islam in Omani society.

Both H.E. Hunaina Sultan Ahmed Al Mughairy, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the United States, and Dr. Mohammed Al-Mamari, Scientific Adviser to the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Religious Affairs delivered remarks addressing religious freedom in Oman and the long-standing tradition of religious tolerance in the country.

The event included a special performance by Omani Sand Artist Shayma Ahmed Al Mughairy, a private calligraphy workshop by Omani calligraphers Saleh Juma Muslem Al Shukairi and Arwa Harith Said Al Rawahi, and a private tour by Omani artist Madny Al Bakry of his paintings that are featured with the exhibition.

Over 140 guests and dignitaries attended the opening of the exhibition. SQCC is host to “Tolerance, Understanding, Coexistence: Oman’s Message of Islam” until 30 August. The exhibition is free and open to the public Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
