Public Lecture and Book Signing by Dr. Emilia Justyna Powell

On 22 September, the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center hosted a book signing and public lecture titled Islamic Law and International Law: Peaceful Settlement of Disputes. Dr. Emilia Justyna Powell, Professor of Political Science with a concurrent appointment at the Law School of Notre Dame, discussed her most recent book Islamic Law States and International Law: Peaceful Resolution of Disputes (2020, Oxford University Press).
The widely acclaimed book provided a comprehensive examination of both differences and similarities between the Islamic Legal Traditions and Classical International Law especially in the context of dispute settlement. She also writes about the presence of traditional Islamic Jurisprudence in the International Court of Justice.
Her lecture was concluded by question and answer followed by a reception and book signing.
