George Washington & His World : In recognition of USA 250

In recognition of the 250th anniversary of American independence, the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center is proud to present a year of lectures, events, and programs exploring American history and the long-standing friendship between Oman and the United States.

This lecture will explore the life, leadership, and historical legacy of George Washington, examining his role in the American Revolution, the founding of the United States, and the early years of the American republic. Drawing on themes from George Washington and His World, the lecture will also consider the people, ideas, and social and political circumstances that shaped Washington’s life and influence, offering a broader understanding of his place in eighteenth-century American history.

About the Speaker

Dr. Denver Brunsman is Associate Professor and Chair of History at George Washington University, specializing in the American Revolution, early U.S. history, and the British Atlantic world. He is an award-winning author of George Washington and His World (2026) and co-editor of The American Revolution Reader (2014). He has also contributed to major U.S. history textbooks and other publications. He co-directs GW’s Albert H. Small Normandy Institute and regularly leads professional development programs for K–12 educators.
