Dhofari Folk Tales: Second Edition Released

The Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center recently printed a second edition of My Grandmother’s Stories: Folk Tales from Dhofar. This book is a collection of Omani folk tales compiled by an Omani author, Khadija bint Alawi Al-Dhahab, who grew up in the southern Omani province of Dhofar. Khadija's childhood was filled with stories told to children by their elders. She took 15 of those stories and transcribed them. They were translated into English by W. Scott Chahanovich.

The stories open a window into Omani culture through tales, both real and magical. Princesses, peasants, genies, and talking animals introduce the reader to Dhofari life, customs, and values. The collection includes original colored pictures to help illustrate the stories.

If you are interested in receiving a copy of My Grandmother's Stories, please send a request to info@sqcc.org.
