SQCC hosted City Kids Homeschool Student Group

Friday, February 16, 2018

On Friday 16 February, the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center welcomed a community of City Kids home-schooled students and their parents for an educational excursion. The group of students toured SQCC's permanent exhibition and learned about traditional Omani dresses, handicrafts such as pottery, basketry, silver artwork and woodworkingas well as the aflaj irrigation system. Later on the group participated in a flat Omani workshop, which introduces students to Oman and its culture through traditional Omani clothing. The activity focused on dressing and decorating an Omani girl or a boy in dishdasha (dress), sarwal (pants), waqaya (head scarf), and nahl (sandal).

The group also visited SQCC’s library and browsed the collection of English and Arabic language books, including My Grandmother's Stories: Folk Tales from Dhofar. In the library, students continued to ask questions to learn more about Oman.
