SQCC hosts a special evening with Mark Evans at the Freer Sackler Galleries

Wednesday, November 1, 2017

On Wednesday 1 November, the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center and the Smithsonian's Freer Sackler galleries of Asian art co-hosted a screening of Crossing the Empty Quarter. The film covers the historical trek of the modern-day explorer and Executive Director of Outward Bound Oman, Mark Evans, and two Omani companions, as they cross the Rub' al Khali, the largest sand desert on earth. Before the film was shown, Mr. Evans, MBE, presented about Bertram Thomas's experience on this same trek 85 years prior to Evans's own 2015 expedition. Following the film, audience members participated in a Q & A with the British explorer. The evening concluded with a reception.
