SQCC held its inaugural celebration of the World Arabic Language Day on 13 December. The Arabic language is annually commemorated on 18 December, the day when the United Nations General Assembly approved Arabic as an official and working language of the United Nations. The annual celebration was first launched by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2010.

Over 130 guests attended this year's WALD celebration. The theme of this year’s celebrations and the topic of the panel discussion was “The Art of Arabic Calligraphy and Illumination.” Our panel discussion was led by three distinguished artists and scholars of Arabic calligraphy and illumination: Josh Berer, Sughra Hussainy, and Dr. Wayne Osborn, Jr

In addition, Mr. Basem Elzaawily gave a presentation honoring Al-Farāhīdi’s, (ʻAbqarī al-lughah), a genius of Arabic Language, that highlighted his contributions to the Arabic language.
