SQCC's Second Visit to Burrville Elementary School as part of Embassy Adoption Program (EAP)

Friday, October 5, 2018

On Friday 5 October, representatives from the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center visited a fifth grade class at Burrville Elementary School as part of the Embassy Adoption Program (EAP). Students were excited to share what they remembered about Oman from their first visit to SQCC, including how to say “welcome” and “thank you” in Arabic. Students summarized what they learned about Oman’s culture, people, geography, and food.

As part of the second visit, students learned how to write their names in Arabic. Each student wrote his or her name on printed card stock that had an Arabesque border on it. After writing their names, students then colored in the border of their picture frame to take a bit of Arab culture home with them. Students were also introduced to the 11 provinces of Oman through writing the names of the provinces in Arabic on a blank map of Oman. Students also learned about the Indian Ocean in World History website (IOWH). Students explored this interactive history website for k-12 social studies, and each student chose a subject from the website to talk about.
