Tuesday, April 10, 2018

On Tuesday 10 April, the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center hosted a public lecture by Dr. Joaquim I. Goes entitled “Shrinking Snow Caps and Rising Tides: Implications for Oman’s Costal Resources.” Dr. Goes, a Lamont Research Professor and the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center’s 2017 Research Fellow , shared some of the data he has collected in his efforts to examine how climate change has affected ocean ecosystems in and around the Arabian Sea. His lecture focused on how climate change has allowed for the rapid growth and spread of the Noctiluca plankton as well as highlighting the dangers that both climate change and the plankton could present to the ocean’s ecosystem and to the region’s socioeconomic health.

Following her presentation, Dr. Goes answered questions from the audience.
