SQCC hosted a booth at the 43rd annual Arab and Chaldean Festival, held in Detroit, MI on August 2-3, 2014
Since its establishment in 1972, this annual festival has promoted cross-cultural exchange through the celebration of diverse cultures within the Arab and Chaldean community. The festival included performances featuring Arabic singers and Middle Eastern dances, cultural exhibits, a fashion show that displayed Arab and Chaldean cultural traditions, traditional Arab food, and a comedian performance.
Visitors to SQCC's booth learned about Omani culture and SQCC programs and activities while enjoying a display of Omani handicrafts. A raffle contest was held also. The winner received a majmar (Omani frankincense burner), frankincense, a DVD of Omani trade and ship buidling, a copy of My Grandmother's Stories by Khadija bint Alawi Al Dhahab, translated into English by W. Scott Chahanovic, and a traditional hand woven Omani bracelet.
