SQCC hosted Homeschool Student Group

Friday, March 31, 2017

On the morning of March 31,the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center welcomed a community of home-schooled students and their parents for an educational excursion. The group of students, who represented grade levels from elementary through high school, engaged with the SQCC's exhibitions and listened to a presentation about various aspects of Omani life and society.

The students and parents alike had many questions about topics such as Omani hygiene, traditional housing, and the customs around eating. After learning about the rich cultural history of frankincense in Oman and its continued role today, the group passed around frankincense burners and rubbed the aromatic pieces between their hands.

The group then transitioned to the center's library, which features a special collection of Arabic and English language books, periodicals and photographic works on the history, literature, politics and religion of The Sultanate of Oman. In the library, students and parents perused the literature and continued to ask questions to learn more about Oman.
