SQCC Hosts World Artists Experience Group

Friday, March 4, 2016

The Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center (SQCC) hosted 60 educators as a stop on a World Artists Experiences (WAE) tour on March 4, 2016. World Artists Experiences strives to promote international understanding and global exchange, providing cultural training for both teachers and students. The group of educators visited a number of Middle East related sites during their day in Washington, DC.

At SQCC the group participated in a presentation about the Arabic language, Omani history and culture, as well as a tour of the cultural exhibition, during which they learned about Omani food, dress, and traditional handicrafts. In addition, Susan Douglass, the K-14 Education Outreach Coordinator at Georgetown University’s Center for Contemporary Arab Studies, addressed the group. Ms. Douglass introduced the educators to the Indian Ocean in World History website, a free, interactive classroom resource that is comprised of signature maps, lesson plans, quizzes, trivia and much more.
