About the Summer Institute

The Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center's Summer Institute on Oman and the Gulf was an extraordinary opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students seeking a more comprehensive understanding of the peoples and cultures of Oman and her neighboring countries in the Gulf. The Institute featured a range of nationally and internationally renowned specialists who addressed history, economics, social change, cultures, the environment, and the dynamics of regional and international organizations. Participants were afforded an opportunity to expand their knowledge of Oman and the Gulf and benefitted from discussions with leading experts.

A series of lunchtime and early evening presentations on the Oman and the Gulf were developed for undergraduate and graduate students working as interns in the Washington, DC area over the summer. Scholars, diplomats, journalists, corporate executives and others provided information and insight into the peoples, cultures, history, and development of Oman and the Gulf States, while serving as examples of the many career choices available for those pursuing a career reflecting their interest in the Arab world. The Summer Institute was held in conjunction with the National Council on US Arab Relations.
